Dr. Karolina Augustova is a Lecturer in Sociological & Cultural Studies at the University of Glasgow since 2023. Previously held positions include Lecturer in Sociology and International Relations at Northumbria University, ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow at Aston University, and IPC-Mercator Fellow at Istanbul Policy Centre (Sabanci University). She holds a PhD from Aston University supported by the Aston Prize Studentship.
Her research focuses on international border management, migration violence, and the intersection of race, gender, and climatic conditions in migration contexts. Key areas include EU externalization policies, push-back tactics, and migrant smuggling networks. Collaborations involve activist groups (BVMN, No Name Kitchen), EU Parliament, Council of Europe, and think tanks like Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung.
Publications include the 2023 monograph Everyday Violence at the EU’s External Borders (Routledge) and articles in Geoforum, Geopolitics, and Antipode. Media contributions appear in Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Politico.
