Karla Pollmann

Karla Pollmann is a Professor of Classics and President at the University of Tübingen. She has held significant academic and leadership roles, including Head of the School of Humanities at the University of Reading, Deputy Dean at the University of Kent, and Professor of Classics at St Andrews University and the University of Kent. She is recognized globally for her expertise in Augustine studies and his historical reception, as well as Latin literature.

Research Interests: Pollmann’s work focuses on early Christian and late antique intellectual history, Patristics, and the reception of classical texts in later periods. She explores intermediality, hermeneutics, and the cultural dynamics between Christians and Pagans in Late Antiquity.

Scientific Awards: Her accolades include a Major Leverhulme Research Grant, a Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN Co-Investigator role, and prestigious fellowships at Wolfson College, Princeton, and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study.

Advising and Leadership: Pollmann has directed large interdisciplinary projects, such as the EU-funded Innovative Training Network with 14 PhD students, and held leadership roles at multiple universities, emphasizing international academic partnerships.
