Karla Kinkade, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Biology and Public Health at Marian University. She holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Hanover College and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Indiana University School of Medicine. Her postdoctoral research at the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research focused on the structure and function of the phagocyte NADPH-oxidase flavocytochrome b558. She is certified as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Her teaching expertise spans Microbiology, Immunology, and Epidemiology, with courses such as BIO 214 Microbiology, BIO 340 Advanced Microbiology, and PBH 301 Introduction to Epidemiology. Her research interests include Biology Education Research and promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEM.
Dr. Kinkade actively serves on several university committees: Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee, member of the Institutional Review Board, member of the General Education Committee, and member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Her publications reflect contributions to both laboratory research and educational methodologies, with recent work focusing on adaptable rubrics for scientific writing and innovative teaching frameworks in chemistry education.
