Karla Culligan is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). She holds a PhD in Education (UNB, 2018), MEd (UNB, 2008), BEd (UNB, 2002), and a BA from Mount Allison University (2000). Her research focuses on French immersion education, bilingualism/multilingualism, mathematics education, and teacher education, with a methodological emphasis on qualitative research. She is affiliated with the Second Language Research Institute of Canada (L2RIC), contributing to nationally funded projects on second language education and policy.
Dr. Culligan leads or collaborates on major grants, including a SSHRC Insight Grant (2022-2026) on migration and Indigenous contexts in mathematics education, and a CASLT-funded project on French as a second language (FSL) teacher education. She teaches courses such as Foundations of Bi/Multilingual Education and Practicum Supervision, emphasizing reflective practice and language-in-education dynamics.
