Dr. Karl William Stukenberg is a Professor at Xavier University's School of Psychology, where he has served for over 25 years. He has held administrative roles as Director of Psychological Services and Chair of the School. His academic journey includes undergraduate training at St. John’s College (Great Books program), a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University, internship at Baylor College of Medicine, and post-doctoral training at the Menninger Clinic, followed by certification as a psychoanalyst at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.

Dr. Stukenberg specializes in psychological assessment (MMPI, Rorschach) and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, with a focus on integrating empirical research into clinical practice. He has taught graduate courses in intellectual assessment, personality assessment, and integrative assessment, as well as undergraduate courses in General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and History of Psychology. His active lab explores how psychotherapy works by analyzing and rating psychoanalytic session recordings.
The 2015–2018 articles highlight his work in psychoanalytic process research, therapeutic alliance evaluation, personality assessment validation, and integrating empirical findings into clinical frameworks. Co-authored studies with Waldron and Gazzillo emphasize large-scale psychoanalysis analysis, while solo works focus on translating research for practitioner audiences.
Dr. Stukenberg has served as a key academic leader at Xavier, contributing to curriculum development and institutional roles in psychological services and faculty governance. His lab remains a hub for analyzing psychotherapy mechanics through session recordings.
