Karl McLaughlin

Dr Karl McLaughlin is a Senior Lecturer in Spanish (Translation and Interpreting) at Manchester Metropolitan University. He holds a PhD from the University of Bradford (2010), a BA in French/Spanish from Queen’s University Belfast (1983), and European Commission interpreter training (1987). His dual career combines academia with professional interpreting/translation work accredited by the European Parliament and Commission.

• Research Expertise: 17th-century Spanish female author Catalina Clara Ramírez de Guzmán, legal interpreting quality, sport-politics intersections, and Tenerife Carnival satirical songs. His research directly influenced historical corrections in Llerena, Spain regarding a literary statue's biographical details.
• Teaching Roles: Leads postgraduate/undergraduate courses in translation/interpreting across UK/European universities. Formerly coordinated Erasmus outbound programs and served as departmental admissions/marketing lead.
