Karl Maschino is the Distinguished Service Professor of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College. He previously served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and Co-Chief Risk Officer at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) from 2014 to 2024, overseeing operations across 3,500 staff and 12 locations. Earlier, he held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Justice, including Executive Officer in the Criminal Division, and worked in international higher education and sustainable development.
