Karl Kaltenthaler is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science at Case Western Reserve University. He holds a Ph.D. from Washington University (1995). His research focuses on political behavior, public opinion dynamics, Islamist militancy, international security, and political economy. Current projects include a nation-wide survey in Pakistan exploring attitudes toward Islamist militancy and media consumption, and studies on Iranian public opinion regarding nuclear weapons and international treaties.
His work examines how individual social psychology influences political perceptions, particularly regarding terrorism, welfare policies, privatization, and economic integration. He has published extensively on topics such as U.S. counterterrorism strategies, Pakistani anti-American sentiment, and the impact of elite cues on nuclear proliferation attitudes in Iran.
Recent publications analyze the 'war on terror' perceptions in the Islamic world, public opposition to drone strikes in Pakistan, and the relationship between social trust and support for trade liberalization. His research bridges comparative politics, international relations, and quantitative methodology.
