Dr. Karl I. Jacob is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, located at MRDC Room 4509. His research focuses on the mechanics of materials, nanoscale modeling, and biomedical applications such as drug delivery systems. He joined Georgia Tech in 1995 after roles at DuPont Company as a Research and Senior Engineer.
Education includes a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (1985), M.Tech. from IIT Madras (1980), and B.Sc. (Engg.) from Kerala University (1978). His work integrates theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches to study material behavior at micro- and nano-scales.
Key research interests include stress-induced phase transformations, nanoscale characterization, polymeric nanofibers, biomimetic systems, and fracture mechanics. He has been recognized with the National Textile Center Award (2002) and leads the ASME Materials Division Polymer Committee since 2002.
Dr. Jacob holds patents on composite materials and has advanced interdisciplinary research bridging classical mechanics with nanoscale analysis, particularly in biomedical and bio-related applications.
