معرفی
Dr. Karl Evans is a Senior Lecturer in Conservation Biology at the University of Sheffield’s School of Biosciences (since 2015), previously holding roles including Lecturer (2011–2014), Leverhulme Early Career Fellow (2009–2011), and post-doctoral researcher (2003–2008). He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford (2001). His research focuses on biodiversity responses to environmental change, particularly urbanization and climate change, emphasizing conservation interventions and policy. He combines large-scale approaches with fieldwork to explore how human activities impact ecosystems.
Research interests include urban ecology, climate change impacts, and biodiversity conservation. He leads studies on avian functional diversity, tropical mega-city urbanization effects, and fire ecology. His work bridges ecology and policy, addressing conservation challenges like protected area management and sustainable land use.
Teaching includes modules on conservation principles (APS271) and conservation issues (APS349), emphasizing real-world problem-solving and critical analysis of scientific literature. He supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Professional activities include editorial roles for Animal Conservation and Global Ecology and Biogeography, and membership in the British Ornithologists' Union committee. His research group includes postdocs and PhD students addressing topics like urban ecosystem services, shifting cultivation, and tropical biodiversity.
