معرفی
Karl W. Boehme, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine. His research focuses on viral pathogenesis using reovirus as a model system to study bloodstream dissemination, type-I interferon responses, and viral protein synthesis. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University.
Education
- Ph.D.: University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN
Research Interests
Dr. Boehme’s lab investigates three core areas: (1) reovirus entry into the bloodstream and organ targeting, (2) viral manipulation of type-I interferon responses, and (3) mechanisms of viral protein synthesis. A central focus is the role of the nonstructural protein sigma 1s in overcoming host defenses. His work integrates genetic, biochemical, and in vivo models to study viral pathogenesis.
Lab Members
- Current: Michael Eledge, LeKevia Cobb, Clayton Matthews (Graduate Students); Moya Kouassi (Research Technician)
- Alumni: Marcelle Dina Zita (Postdoc, Johns Hopkins); Matthew Phillips (Postdoc, University of Florida); Johnasha Stuart (Postdoc, Emory)
Labs/Teams
His lab utilizes small animal models and cell culture systems to study reovirus pathogenesis, combining molecular biology with immunological approaches.
