Karl Bailey is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the undergraduate Behavioral Neuroscience Program at Andrews University's School of Social & Behavioral Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Michigan State University (2004), an M.A. in Psychology (2002), and a B.Sc. in Psychology & Biology from Andrews University (1999). His research focuses on psycholinguistics, visual attention, and the intersection of religious belief with motivation and well-being, particularly among Seventh-day Adventists. He leads projects on Sabbath-keeping internalization and its impact on well-being, and uses eye-tracking technology in the Andrews University Cognitive Psychology Laboratory to study art perception and language comprehension.
Dr. Bailey teaches courses in cognitive psychology, research methods, and faith integration, and organizes the department’s annual Midwestern Psychological Association conference trip. He has been recognized with the Horn Award (2016) and has contributed to over 50 scholarly works, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His work emphasizes fostering undergraduate research and critical thinking skills, as seen in his specifications-grading approach and curriculum development efforts. Personal interests include music and programming.
