Karl A. Haushalter

Karl A. Haushalter is the Seeley W. Mudd Professor of Chemistry and Biology and Department Chair at Harvey Mudd College. He holds a B.A. from Rice University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His research focuses on DNA repair mechanisms, specifically enzymes in the homologous recombination repair and base excision repair pathways, which are critical for understanding carcinogenesis, aging, and evolution. In addition to his scientific work, he leads community efforts to address HIV/AIDS stigma through education and service. He teaches the HIV-AIDS: Science, Society, and Service course, a service-learning initiative integrating scientific rigor with community engagement.
