Karine Croteau is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on decolonizing social work practices, Indigenous child welfare, cultural safety in social services, and trauma-informed approaches. She leads the Cercle Kinistòtàdimin, a strategic initiative to decolonize the School of Social Work, and holds leadership roles at the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory on Children’s Rights (LRIDE) and the Interuniversity Center for Indigenous Studies (CIÉRA).
Education: PhD in Social Work (University of Montreal, 2019), MA in Social Work (University of Sherbrooke, 2005), BA in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (Bishop’s University, 2002).
Teaching includes courses on childhood-familial issues, Indigenous social work practices, and research methodologies. She emphasizes reflexive, culturally sensitive practices and systemic interventions in her teaching and research.
