Karine Chevalier

Karine Chevalier is a Senior Lecturer in French and Francophone Studies and Film at Roehampton University since 2007. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Grenoble University and the University of Westminster, focusing on memory in literature. Her dual career as an academic and filmmaker includes directing and producing films such as Lost Tango (2010, winner of the Swansea Bay Film Festival) and Behind the Scenes (2012). She actively contributes to cinema festivals and serves as an external examiner for film and language programs.

Research Interests: Transnational cinema, postcolonial studies, intermediality, representation of violence and resilience, gender performances, Corsican cinema, and ethical transcreation. She explores masks as both literal and metaphorical symbols in art and culture, with a focus on minority voices and global-local dynamics.
