Prof. Karine Auclair is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at McGill University, holding the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Antimicrobials and Green Enzymes since 2019. She leads the Auclair Lab, focusing on antibiotic resistance, green chemistry, and enzyme-driven solutions. Her research integrates chemical synthesis, enzymology, and microbiology to address global challenges like plastic pollution and infectious diseases. She currently teaches CHEM 332 (Biological Chemistry) and CHEM 502 (Advanced Bio-Organic Chemistry).
Education:
- B.Sc. Chemistry, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (1994)
- Ph.D. Organic Chemistry, University of Alberta (1999)
- Postdoc, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, UCSF (1999-2001)
Research Themes:
- Development of novel antibiotics targeting intracellular bacteria
- Mechanoenzymology for sustainable polymer depolymerization and CO₂ capture
- Biochemical studies of P450 enzymes and CPR
Awards:
- NSERC 1967 Awardee (PhD funding)
- Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (2019)
Lab Team: Supervises a diverse group of postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates working on projects ranging from antibacterial inhibitors to enzymatic recycling of plastics. Current students include J.P. Daniel Therien (mechanoenzymology), Jake Pierscianowski (itaconate pathway), and Alec McAlpine (pantothenamide mimetics).
