Dr. Karina J Linnell is a Reader in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, studying visual cognition, attention, perception, and awareness. Her research examines how experience shapes fundamental cognitive processes, adopting a translational approach across mature/developing and normal/abnormal function.
Key research areas include: 1) Selective attention and attentional control mechanisms; 2) Attentional state, arousal, and performance relationships; 3) Pupillometry and eye-movement methodologies; 4) Visual perception and local-global bias; and 5) Cross-cultural differences related to urbanization and education. Linnell's cross-cultural work compares cognitive styles between remote Namibian communities and urban populations.
She has received funding from ESRC, British Academy, and NIHR. Her work on urbanization's impact on concentration has gained significant media attention, leading to ESRC impact case studies.
