Karin van IJsselmuide

Karin van IJsselmuide is a Researcher affiliated with the Public Procurement research group at five universities of applied sciences since October 1, 2023. She leads the Business Innovation Knowledge Center at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, focusing on circular procurement and market collaboration. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications in sustainable procurement, emphasizing the 'power of procurement' to drive sustainability across supply chains.

Her research interests span Public Procurement, Circular Procurement, Sustainable Procurement, and Socially Responsible Procurement. She specializes in connecting procurement practices with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 on sustainable consumption and production. Karin developed the 'tell me, show me, and prove me!' approach for building sustainable supply chains, providing practical implementation frameworks for organizations.

Her recent publications demonstrate a progression from theoretical frameworks toward actionable tools and guidelines for sustainable procurement implementation in government and business contexts. The articles reflect her focus on translating international standards like ISO 20400 into practical applications.

Karin serves as the Alliance Coordinator for SDG 12 sustainable consumption and production, acting as the figurehead and helpdesk for Dutch organizations. She chairs the NEN Standards Committee for ISO 20400 on Sustainable Procurement, contributing significantly to international standardization efforts. Her work with NEVI (Netherlands Purchasing and Supply Chain Association) has been instrumental in developing procurement education programs.

Through her agency Karinijss, she provides presentations, training, and consultancy on procurement and tendering. She collaborates on various projects including the circular procurement acceleration network and sustainable and healthy food in healthcare (Toekomstproef). Her mission is to make professional and sustainable procurement an integral part of every educational program, preparing students to generate positive impact through procurement practices in their future careers.
