Karin Lucas is a Lecturer in German at the School of Humanities, University of Tasmania. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2018), a BA (Hons) from the University of Tasmania (2009), and a Teaching Diploma from Humboldt Universität Berlin/Pushkin Institute Moscow (1988). Her research focuses on German literature and postcolonial studies, with notable contributions analyzing Gottfried Keller’s works through cosmopolitan and cultural lenses.
Teaching Responsibilities include German language courses: HEG207 (German 2A), HEG208 (German 2B), HEG315 (German 3A), and HEG316 (German 3B). She is affiliated with the German Studies Association of Australia, contributing to conferences and publications. Her academic journey includes prior teaching roles in Germany, Tasmania, Hong Kong, and at the Goethe Institute.
Research Interests span German literary analysis, cultural identity studies, and postcolonial discourse. Recent work examines cosmopolitan imaginings in Keller’s texts and constructions of otherness in 19th-century German literature. She also explores the intersection of religion and realism in Keller’s narratives.
