University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Viennaمعرفی
Karin Hage-Ahmed is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Plant Protection, Department of Agrarwissenschaften, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). She has been actively contributing to research and teaching in plant protection and sustainable agriculture since completing her PhD at BOKU in 2013. Her career includes roles as a university assistant (2013–2019) and a research stay at Northern Arizona University (2015). She leads multiple research projects funded by national and international bodies such as FWF, EU, and the Austrian Ministry.
Her research focuses on plant-microbe interactions, particularly the role of mycorrhizal and endophytic fungi in promoting plant health and providing biocontrol against soilborne pathogens like Fusarium. She investigates root exudate dynamics, metabolite interactions, and the impact of agricultural practices on soil and plant health. Her work spans both field and laboratory settings, integrating molecular, ecological, and physiological approaches.
Her recent publications and projects highlight a strong trend toward sustainable agricultural solutions, including biological control, intercropping, and reduced chemical inputs. She has extensively studied Fusarium diseases in tomato and garlic, as well as mycorrhizal associations in rye and wheat under different farming systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Georg Prosoroff Preis (1st Place, 2013)
Dr. Hage-Ahmed is actively involved in scientific service, serving on the advisory board of Applied Soil Ecology and as a reviewer for journals such as Plant and Soil, Mycorrhiza, and Pest Management Science. She mentors students and contributes to academic discourse through conference presentations and community engagement. She is a member of professional organizations including ALVA, DPG, and the International Mycorrhiza Society.
She also leads research groups and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects related to soil health, biocontrol, and sustainable crop production, often in partnership with institutions across Europe.
