Karin Berglund

Karin Berglund is Professor in Business with specialization in entrepreneurship at Stockholm University's Stockholm Business School, Department of Business Administration. She leads research through the EMBLA research group (a virtual center of excellence in gender and entrepreneurship) and the Entrepreneurship Organization & Society (EOS) research group, developing knowledge about alternative forms of entrepreneurship.

Professor Berglund's research critically examines the expansion of conventional entrepreneurship to new contexts and emerging forms of alternative entrepreneurship. Her work focuses on how entrepreneurship manifests within enterprise culture, with particular attention to gender dynamics, social entrepreneurship, and the impact of neoliberal policies. She challenges traditional entrepreneurship narratives through feminist and critical perspectives, exploring how entrepreneurial subjectivities are formed in contemporary society and how entrepreneurship education shapes student identities.

Her recent publications reveal a strong trend toward examining the gendered dimensions of entrepreneurship across different institutional contexts, particularly how neoliberal reforms affect women entrepreneurs in welfare states. Berglund's research employs diverse methodologies including ethnography, discourse analysis, videography, and narrative approaches to capture the complexities of entrepreneurial practices in real-world settings, with increasing attention to intersectionality, power dynamics, and alternative forms of entrepreneurship that emphasize social value creation.

Professor Berglund is actively engaged in significant research projects including 'Entrepreneurship, gender and economic growth: challenges to feminist theory,' which develops feminist theories within entrepreneurship research, and previously examined 'Hospital pharmacies - a forgotten operation in deregulation?' focusing on work at hospital pharmacies after Sweden's pharmacy industry privatization in 2011.
