Karime Mescouto

Karime Mescouto is a Research Fellow at RECOVER Injury Research Centre, University of Queensland. As a physiotherapist and postdoctoral researcher, she investigates sociocultural dimensions of pain care using qualitative methodologies and critical theory frameworks.

Research focuses on:

• Critiques of biopsychosocial models in pain management
• Health equity in musculoskeletal care
• Clinical uncertainty and patient experiences
• Intersectional approaches to rehabilitation

Her work employs innovative qualitative designs including ethnography and participatory methods to examine power dynamics in healthcare. Recent publications explore how reflexivity can transform low back pain practices and challenge dominant biomedical paradigms.
