Kariane Calta is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Vassar College, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics since 2007. She holds a BA from Williams College and advanced degrees (MS and PhD) from the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on algebra, number theory, ergodic theory, dynamical systems, topology, and algebraic geometry, with notable contributions to continued fractions, lattice surfaces, and synchronization phenomena in dynamical systems.
Calta co-organized the Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference for three years via an NSF grant (with Benjamin Lotto and colleagues). Her work bridges pure mathematics and geometric dynamics, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
Her publications analyze ergodic properties, algebraic structures, and geometric surfaces, reflecting a strong theoretical foundation. Beyond research, she contributes to initiatives like the Exploring Transfer program, supporting community college students' transitions to four-year institutions.
