Dr. Kari-Lynn Winters is a Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University’s Faculty of Education. She specializes in drama-in-education, dance-in-education, and language arts, with a focus on embodied pedagogies, children’s literature, and multimodal literacies. She holds a PhD from UBC in literacy education and arts, alongside degrees from the University of Toronto and the National Theatre School of Canada.
Her research explores authorship as assemblage, body image, and the integration of arts into education. Winters has contributed to numerous academic publications and co-edited volumes on topics such as intercultural mentorship, equitable education during crises, and STEAM integration. She is also an award-winning children’s author, playwright, and performer, with books like On my Bike and Hungry for Science: Poems to Crunch On.
Winters has secured grants for projects like Painting on the Walls of the Cave (focusing on intercultural understandings through artistry) and Mapping Futures (arts-based literacy approaches). She teaches courses such as PJI Drama Education and PJ Language Arts, emphasizing experiential learning. Her professional affiliations include the Ontario College of Teachers and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
Her work bridges education, creativity, and community engagement, advocating for inclusive and embodied learning practices. Recent initiatives include collaborations with Indigenous communities and projects addressing mental health through the arts.
