Karen Wellman

Karen Wellman is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at the College of Law, University of Idaho, located in Moscow. She holds a J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law. Her career includes roles as an associate at Shearman & Sterling, securities enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and leadership positions at the Pacific Exchange. She transitioned to legal publishing, collaborating with law faculty to develop educational resources for law students and bar exam preparation. She has taught Legal Writing & Analysis for LL.M. students at Berkeley.

Her focus is on academic skills development, ensuring students succeed in law school, bar exams, and legal practice. She emphasizes individualized support for students’ potential. Professional contributions include pro bono immigration work, including IRCA legalization applications and deportation relief. She is actively involved in the College of Law’s Academic Skills Lab courses.

Outside academia, Wellman is passionate about rowing, aiming to row on the Snake River and become a US Rowing referee. She has two adult children and seeks to adopt a dog.
