Karen Visick

Karen Visick is Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine. Her laboratory investigates biofilm formation and host-microbe symbiosis using the Vibrio fischeri-squid model system.

Research focuses on molecular mechanisms controlling bacterial aggregation, colonization, and symbiotic persistence. Key interests include calcium signaling, quorum sensing, cyclic di-GMP regulation, and polysaccharide-dependent biofilm maturation.

Publications demonstrate expertise in bacterial genetics and physiology, particularly in understanding how environmental cues regulate biofilm development. Recent work explores nuclease functions, kinase networks, and therapeutic applications of biofilm research.
