Karen Schiff is a Lecturer in Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD). Her work bridges artistic practice, literary analysis, and architectural space. She holds an MFA in Studio Art (Honors in Drawing) from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University, a PhD in Comparative Literature (with a Women’s Studies Certificate) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a combined AB/AM in Comparative Literature/English from Brown University. Schiff has curated exhibitions such as ‘ARCHItextURE: Experiencing Books As Buildings’ and authored critical writing for Art Journal, Hyperallergic, and others.
Her research focuses on spatial dynamics in art and architecture, including a long-term reinterpretation of Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. At the BAC, she designed an undergraduate thesis program and secured a grant for its handbook. Teaching roles include Drawing courses at RISD and Pratt, alongside architecture reviews at Clemson University.
Recent work includes the essay Inevitable Ecology (2024), exploring climate-responsive architecture. Awards include a Core Fellowship at the MFAH’s Glassell School of Art and grant funding for educational initiatives.
