Karen Paisley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism at the University of Utah, a position she has held since July 2007. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor in the same department (2000–2007) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Health & Kinesiology (2004–2016).
She holds a BS in Finance from the University in Washington, an MS and PhD in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from Clemson University, and completed the HERS Institute Leadership Development Program at the University of Denver in 2013.
Her research focuses on parks management, recreation studies, tourism management, and leisure education, reflecting her academic background and departmental alignment.
She has received significant recognition for teaching excellence, including:
- Distinguished Teaching Award (University of Utah, 2011)
- Best Leisure Education Paper (Leisure Studies Association, 2012)
- Excellence in Teaching Award (Society of Park and Recreation Educators, 2007)
- Early Career Teaching Award (University of Utah, 2005)
In 2023, she taught the course 'The MUSE Seminar'.
