Karen Kainer is a Professor at the University of Florida with a joint appointment in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences and the Center for Latin American Studies, where she serves as core faculty in the Tropical Conservation and Development Program.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Forest Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida.
Dr. Kainer's research integrates ecological and social sciences to advance sustainable community-based forest management in tropical regions. Her work focuses on tropical forest ecology, conservation-development linkages, and livelihood improvement across Western Amazonia (particularly Acre, Brazil), Mexico, and Paraguay—where she began as a U.S. Peace Corps forest extensionist.
