Karen Huff is a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of the Children’s Literature Program at Shenandoah University’s School of Education & Leadership. She coordinates the elementary education program and has directed the university’s annual Children’s Literature Conference for over 30 years, sharing exemplary children’s literature with educators.
Her research focuses on Children's Literature, Elementary Education, and Literacy Development, with emphasis on early college aspiration building. Dr. Huff pioneered a longitudinal mentoring initiative bringing first-grade students to campus events and literature conferences through high school graduation.
With prior experience teaching elementary and nursery students, she conducts workshops for parent groups and teacher in-service training. Her mentoring program—spanning first grade to senior year—exposed students to college environments through campus visits and conference participation, creating what she describes as a "family of readers" bonded through shared literary experiences from Beatrix Potter to Harper Lee.
