Karen Gergely

Karen Gergely is an Associate Professor of Art and Program Coordinator at Graceland University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. A socially engaged artist and educator, she specializes in fostering community collaboration through public art initiatives while teaching studio art and art history.

Education:

• BA from Shepherd University
• MFA from University of Cincinnati

Research Focus: Her practice emphasizes Appalachian cultural preservation, social engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She integrates adventure-based learning through long-distance hiking (Appalachian Trail) and biking (Continental Divide) into her pedagogy.

Notable Collaborations: Works with West Virginia Governor's Honors Academy students on Appalachian revitalization projects, including murals in Fairmont, WV (2024), Central City, WV (2019), and Lamoni, IA (2017-2021).
