Karen Foltz is a Term Assistant Professor of English at George Mason University's Linguistics Department. Her roles include teaching composition and TESOL courses, with affiliations at Horizon Hall. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Arizona State University (ASU), alongside MA degrees in TESOL (New York University) and Linguistics (University of Delaware), and a BA in History from the University of Maryland.

Her research focuses on second language pedagogy, teacher cognition, and World Englishes. She has presented at TESOL, AAAL, and other linguistics conferences since 2014, including work on linguistic awareness in teacher training and L2 writing practices.
Awardee of the Carl C. Carlie Linguistics Fellowship, she has taught at institutions including Howard Community College, St. George University (Grenada), and the San Diego Padres Rookie League Division. She served as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan’s JET Programme for three years in Kumamoto prefecture.
Teaching specialties include multilingual writer support (English 100), advanced composition (English 302), and TESOL methodology (Linguistics 521/321).
