Dr. Karen Edge is a Research Professor in Educational Leadership at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE), specifically within the Learning & Leadership department. She previously served as Head of International Partnerships at the IOE Doctoral School (2013–2016). Her expertise spans educational policy, leadership development, and systemic reform, with a focus on global education systems and public engagement.
Education:
- BSc in Biology and Environmental Science (1993) – University of Western Ontario
- MA in Higher Education Policy (1998) – University of Toronto
- PhD in Educational Policy and Administration (2005) – University of Toronto
Research Interests: Karen’s work emphasizes strategic leadership in education, talent management, and cross-sector collaboration. She leads initiatives like the Global City Leaders Project, which engages policymakers and practitioners globally. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health) and 4 (Quality Education).
Awards & Recognition: Recipient of the UCL IOE Director’s Prize for Public Engagement (2015). Active on editorial boards, including Educational Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability and School Leadership and Management.
Consulting & Leadership: Advises governments and NGOs such as the UK Department for Education, ActionAid, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Serves on the Economic and Social Research Council (UK) and Danish Strategic Research Review Panels.
International Engagement: Holds visiting appointments in Canada, Chile, and Malaysia. Leads the International School Principal Program advisory panel in Ontario and serves as a community governor at Martin Primary and Octavia House schools in London.
