Dr. Karen Donovan holds dual roles as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Executive Education, and Associate Professor of Marketing at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University. She specializes in teaching Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior, and Marketing Strategy at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research focuses on public policy and marketing, particularly consumer perceptions of package labeling related to FDA regulations and dietary supplements. Dr. Donovan has presented her work at FDA meetings and co-chaired the Millennial Marketing and Public Policy conference. She has also served as a guest editor for prominent journals and an invited speaker at doctoral conferences.
Dr. Donovan earned her Ph.D. and M.B.A. in Marketing from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to Duquesne, she served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Department Chair of Marketing at West Virginia University. Her international experience includes teaching at CIMBA Italy and leading student programs across Asia, Europe, and South America. Her research has been published in top-tier journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, and Journal of Consumer Affairs.
Her work bridges academic and applied contexts, emphasizing policy implications for consumer protection and regulatory compliance. Key areas of contribution include health claims communication, cross-cultural consumer behavior, and the intersection of religious freedom with marketplace ethics.
