She teaches physics courses and conducts research in particle and astroparticle physics, with contact details including phone (414) 288-3569 and email karen.andeen@marquette.edu.
Dr. Andeen's educational background includes:
- BA from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL
- Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
Her research spans cosmic ray composition, energy spectrum analysis, and neutrino astronomy through major international experiments. She has deployed detectors at the South Pole for IceCube, developed diamond-based instrumentation for CMS at CERN, and analyzed space-based cosmic ray data from the AMS-02 experiment. Her work emphasizes detector design, data analysis of extreme environments, and multicultural scientific collaboration.
Dr. Andeen actively participates in the IceCube Neutrino Observatory collaboration and has held research positions at Rutgers University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and CERN. She is currently designing new detectors for IceCube's proposed upgrade while advocating for study abroad programs based on her experience working across six continents.
A multilingual researcher fluent in English, French, and German, she integrates global perspectives into her academic work and strongly supports multicultural education initiatives within physics.
