doc. Mgr. Karel Stibral, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Studies at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University in Brno. His academic career includes leadership roles such as Department Head (since 2019) and Deputy Head (2017-2018). He holds a Master’s in Aesthetics and Art History from Charles University (1995) and a PhD in Philosophy and History of Science (2000).
His research focuses on environmental aesthetics, history of nature conservation, and interdisciplinary environmental humanities. Notable projects include grants on Czech natural aesthetics and postmodern environmental perception. He has held academic positions at Charles University and the University of South Bohemia, alongside international collaborations in Poland, Austria, and Taiwan.
Teaching spans courses like Aesthetic Perception of Nature, Environmental Humanities, and History of Natural Sciences. Administrative roles include membership in Masaryk University’s Scientific Board and the Czech Republic’s Research Evaluation Panel.
