Karan Vickers-Hulse

Karan Vickers-Hulse is Associate Director: Education in the School of Education and Childhood at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), where she is also a Senior Lecturer in the ACE - Education and Childhood department. She is an early career researcher with a strong focus on teacher education and professional development, and actively contributes to educational leadership and equity initiatives.

Her research centers on professional identity formation, teacher education pedagogy, equity and diversity, and social and emotional learning (SEL). She completed her EdD in 2021, with doctoral research exploring how pre-service teachers develop their professional identities through postgraduate teacher training. Her current research includes collaborative international work with South Africa on reading instruction in teacher education, experiences of minoritised students in teacher training, the impact of reaccreditation on teacher education providers, and the development of SEL skills in pre-service teachers.

Karan Vickers-Hulse is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and contributes to the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team in her school. She is also an active member of the UWE Education and Childhood Research Group (ECRG) and serves on the UCET management committee. Beyond the university, she holds a leadership role as Chair of Governors at a Welsh-medium primary school in South Wales.
