Dr. Jane Carter is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education and Childhood at the University of the West of England (UWE). With a background transitioning from law to primary teaching (including deputy headship) and local authority literacy support, she now teaches across undergraduate Initial Teacher Education to doctoral programmes.
Her educational qualifications include:

Passionate about English teaching and reading pedagogy, her research centers on literacy with emphasis on early reading comprehension, community Funds of Knowledge, and anti-racist approaches to engage children and families. She investigates how teacher educators navigate policy-practice tensions and explores historical events to foster tolerance through human rights frameworks.

She co-authored 'Putting Social Justice at the Heart of Reading for Pleasure' and collaborates internationally with University of Zululand and Malmo University on inclusive pedagogies.
