Dr. Kara Ieva serves as Professor in the Counseling in Educational Settings program at Rowan University's College of Education, leveraging over 20 years of prior experience as a Spanish teacher and professional school counselor to bridge practical K-12 insights with academic scholarship.
Her educational foundation includes:
- Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Secondary Education, Towson University
- Master’s of Education in Secondary Education Curriculum and Administration, Towson University
- Master’s of Education in School Counseling, Loyola College in Maryland
- PhD in Counselor Education, University of Central Florida
Research centers on equity and wellness initiatives for marginalized children and adolescents, with emphasis on college/career readiness frameworks, social/emotional development integration into curricula, and neurodiverse-inclusive school culture strategies. She pioneers virtual reality applications to broaden STEM participation among underrepresented students through career exploration.
Dr. Ieva directs Rowan's Aim High and STE2AM pre-college programs supporting first-generation students, while leading the New Jersey School Counselor Online Collective for statewide counselor supervision. Her $1.84M+ grant portfolio includes an NSF-funded VR-STEM career exploration project where she serves as Co-PI.
She holds leadership roles in national counseling organizations and serves on the editorial review board for the American School Counselor Association's Professional School Counselor Journal.
