Kara French

Dr. Kara French serves as Associate Professor and Chair of History at Salisbury University. Her scholarship examines gender, sexuality, and religion in early America.

Research includes significant work on celibacy and chastity in religious communities, particularly through her book Against Sex: Identities of Sexual Restraint in Early America. Current projects investigate Mother Ann Lee and the Shaker movement during the Revolutionary Era.
