Kara English

Dr. Kara English is an Associate Professor in Sustainable Geoenergy at the University College Dublin (UCD) School of Earth Sciences. She leads the Sustainable GeoEnergy Research Group and serves as Deputy Head of School. Her research focuses on energy transition challenges, geothermal energy, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and reservoir quality assessment in exhumed basins. She holds a BSc from the University of Victoria (Canada) and a PhD from the University of Manchester (UK).

Research Interests: Sustainable geoenergy solutions, sedimentology, basin analysis, geological storage potential (CCS/geothermal), and energy transition strategies. Her work spans global projects across North/South/Central America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Key Contributions: Authored over 20+ peer-reviewed publications on CCS potential in Ireland, deep geothermal energy, and exhumed basin dynamics. Leads collaborative research initiatives with industry partners like Stellar Geoscience Ltd.

Teaching: Coordinates courses in Drilling & Logging, Basin Analysis, and Sedimentary Environments. Supervises graduate research in geoenergy systems and reservoir characterization.
