Kami Koldewyn is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Bangor University's School of Psychology & Sport Science, and currently serves as Dean of Research for the College of Medicine and Health. She holds dual roles in research leadership and academic administration, overseeing interdisciplinary initiatives. Her career includes a PhD from UC Davis (2009), postdoctoral work at MIT with Nancy Kanwisher, and faculty roles since 2013. She is part of the Cognitive Neuroscience research group and leads the Developmental Social Vision Lab.
Education: BA in Music and Philosophy (Pomona College, 1996), PhD in Neuroscience (UC Davis, 2009), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Research focuses on social perception development across the lifespan, neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Autism, Fragile X syndrome), and neural bases of social cognition. Methodologies include fMRI, eye-tracking, and behavioral experiments.
Teaching includes a specialist 3rd-year module on Brain Development and Degeneration, and guest lectures at undergraduate and master’s levels. Supervision involves four primary PhD students and four secondary supervisees, alongside postdoctoral scholar Julia Landsiedel. Grants include £1.1M ERC Starting Grant (2017–2022) and projects funded by the Royal Society and British Academy.
Key research areas: Social interaction perception, neural plasticity in social cognition, and diagnostic tools for neurodevelopmental disorders. Active collaborations span international teams. Lab activities include interdisciplinary projects on social brain networks and developmental neuroimaging.
