Kameron C. Carden

Dr. Kameron C. Carden is an Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Samford University. With over 15 years of clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist, she specializes in serving young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Her roles include teaching in oral preschool programs, providing early intervention services, and supporting public school students in Alabama.

Dr. Carden holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from The University of Alabama, an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Florida, and a B.S.Ed. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Georgia. Her professional leadership includes serving on Alabama’s Special Education Advisory Panel, the board of Alabama Hands and Voices, and the Division for Communication, Language, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DCD) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

Her research focuses on complex language development, ecologically valid assessment practices, and eligibility determination for preschoolers who are deaf or hard of hearing. Key areas include narrative intervention, caregiver coaching, and the lived experiences of deaf mothers of children who are DHH.

Her recent publications explore evidence-based practices in special education eligibility, narrative intervention for DHH children, and peer-mediated interventions for autism. Awards include Leadership CEC (2024), Excellence in Dissertation Research (2024), and recognition from the American Cochlear Implant Alliance (2023).

Dr. Carden’s work bridges clinical practice and policy, emphasizing family-centered approaches and equitable access to services. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes for children with hearing differences through innovative assessment tools and intervention strategies.
