Kama Szereszewski

Kama Szereszewski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, Faculty of Science. They hold a B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Carleton University. Their work focuses on bridging biotechnology entrepreneurship with academia, fostering industry partnerships in medicine, health, environment, and agriculture sectors. Key research interests include regenerative medicine, medical devices, neuroscience, and the gut-brain axis. They lead the graduate biotechnology program to advance science innovation and student industry readiness.

Education: B.Sc. (Carleton University), Ph.D. (Carleton University).

Research Interests:

• Biotechnology entrepreneurship and industry collaboration
• Regenerative medicine and medical device development
• Neuroscience, particularly neuroprotection and brain-microbiome interactions
• Genomic sequencing and microRNA regulation
• Hibernation biology and metabolic adaptations

Current Projects: Spearheading Carleton's graduate biotechnology program, developing frameworks for science innovation, and establishing biotech startups. Previous work includes patents on dermal fillers, plant-based biomaterials, and composite biomaterials.

Advising & Grants: Actively engages students in industry-oriented research and innovation projects. Offers volunteer opportunities in networking with industry partners and startup development.
