Kam Chan is an Associate Professor of Finance and Director of Research & Research Training at the UWA Business School (ranked #4 in Australia). His research focuses on asset pricing, political uncertainty, and regulatory impacts on markets, with notable work on SEC filings, brokerage firm regulation, and gun violence exposure effects. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Queensland and an MCom from Lincoln University.
Research interests include market dynamics under economic uncertainty, regulatory enforcement, and the interplay between social factors (e.g., gun violence) and corporate risk. His work is published in top journals like the Journal of Financial Economics and Journal of Banking & Finance, and has been featured in Barron’s, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.
Awards: 2023 UWA Busting Business Myths Competition Winner, 2022 UWA Mid-Career Research Award, and multiple teaching nominations. He leads strategic research initiatives at UWA Business School and serves as Associate Editor of the Pacific-Basin Finance Journal and Deputy Editor of Accounting & Finance.
Engagement: Previously worked at United Overseas Bank in risk analytics, consults in financial tech, and advises on PhD programs at institutions like UNSW and Monash University. Supervised over 10 PhD students, many of whom have secured prestigious scholarships.
