Kalpana Subramanian is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Media Study at the University at Buffalo (SUNY). Her work bridges art, film, and scholarship, focusing on transcultural approaches to media and experimental cinema through Global South perspectives. She has exhibited internationally, including at the Toronto International Film Festival and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival.

Research Interests: Experimental cinema, interdisciplinary media practices, and embodiment frameworks like her proposed 'Cinema of Breath.' Her work explores global cultural narratives through film, video art, interactive media, and photography.
Awards: Recipient of prestigious grants and fellowships, including the New York Council on the Arts Grant (2024) and Fulbright Nehru Fellowship (2015-16). Her team’s projects have earned awards such as the Ars Electronica Interactive Art Award and ID Magazine Gold Prize.
