Kalpalatha Melmaiee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University's College of Ag & Related Science. Her work focuses on plant stress tolerance, molecular marker development, and crop genetic improvement.
She has secured significant grants, including a $599,905 USDA grant (2020) to study gray mold resistance in strawberries and a $149,000 grant (2012) for an on-farm training program. Her research spans blueberries, strawberries, rice, and common beans, utilizing techniques like CRISPR/Cas9, transcriptomic analysis, and SSR marker development.
