Kaloian Koynov

Dr. Kaloian Koynov serves as a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, where he leads the Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy group and heads the Mechanical/Dielectric Properties service laboratory. His position places him at the forefront of polymer and materials research within one of Europe's premier scientific institutions.

Dr. Koynov's educational background includes a physics diploma from Sofia University (1993) followed by a doctorate from the same institution (1997) with research on cascaded nonlinear optical processes. His postdoctoral career included work at the Institute of Fundamental Electronics at the University of Paris Sud and as an EU Marie Curie Fellow at the MPI for Polymer Research.

His research focuses on applying Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy to study molecular mobility in diverse environments including polymer melts, hydrogels, and biological fluids. His work has significant applications in drug delivery systems, particularly for monitoring nanocarriers in blood plasma and whole blood. Additional research interests include microscopy of sliding droplets, thermo-mechanical properties of polymer materials, and nonlinear photonic crystals.
