Kalina Mincheva is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Tulane University, part of the School of Science & Engineering. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University (2016), an M.S. in Mathematics from Central European University (2010), and dual B.A. degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) from the American University in Bulgaria (2008). Her research focuses on algebraic and tropical geometry, particularly exploring tropical schemes, congruences in polynomial semirings, and applications of semifield structures. She has organized conferences such as the SIAM AG'25 mini-symposium on Tropical Linear Spaces and the AMS 2025 Fall Southeastern Sectional Meetings. Mincheva is actively involved in diversity initiatives, including co-organizing the Math for All conference and serving on Tulane’s Inclusivity Math Task Force. She has received grants from the NSF, Simons Foundation, and Tulane’s SSE Award for Diversity and Outreach. Her teaching emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, reflected in her participation in workshops like 'Decolonizing Your Syllabus' and 'Rehumanizing Mathematics.'
Her research contributions include studies on tropical adic spaces, prime tropical ideals, and matroidal representations. She co-organizes the Algebra and Combinatorics Seminar at Tulane and has delivered invited talks at institutions including Johns Hopkins University and the University of New Mexico. Mincheva’s work bridges algebraic structures with combinatorial and geometric insights, advancing foundational theories in tropical geometry while fostering equitable practices in mathematics education.
