Dr. Kali Marnane is an Associate Lecturer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, The University of Queensland. Their research focuses on informal settlements, cultural heritage preservation, and Indigenous design frameworks, with a particular emphasis on Ahmedabad, India, and Indigenous communities in Australia. They hold a PhD in Architecture (2021) from The University of Queensland.
Key research interests include the socio-cultural dynamics of urban spaces, digital technologies for heritage documentation, and sustainable housing solutions for marginalized communities. Notable projects include studies on Gujarati building traditions in Ahmedabad’s informal settlements and the Gununa Futures report on remote Indigenous housing in Queensland.
Collaborative outputs span urban design competitions, engagement frameworks for Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander communities, and cross-cultural digital heritage projects in China and India. Their work bridges academic research with practical applications in community-driven urban development.
